Macedonia. The truth about FYROM and Greece's Right on the Name Issue.

There isn't a Macedonian minority in Greece, simply because there isn't a Macedonian Nation, and never existed such a nation ever in history. From antiquity onwards, Makedonia was a wider region, in the south half of which Greeks always lived. It is only a geographical term. The people of modern FYROM are Slavs of Bulgarian origin. Their language is 85% Bulgarian, and before 1943-44 there was never formally a Macedonian state (or federation) in Yugoslavia. The problem for Tito was exactly that. He wanted to create a "Macedonian" state because he didn't want Bulgaria to bring up any minority issues in the future. Today after the fall of Yugoslavia, they continue to use the term "Macedonia" in order to have an identity, these people continue to insist on their "macedonism". It is true that nobody wants a bigger Bulgaria or a bigger Albania that will come from the dissolution of this small country.

But Greece is right on the name issue because historically this name describes an ancient Greek territory (the etymology of the name is also Greek). The Slavs arrived there in 6th and 7th centuries AD, and this name is mentioned by Greeks before 800BC. The most ridiculous thing is that true Greeks like Philip, Alexander, Thessaloniki, Kassander, Cyril and Methodius (all Greek names if you follow the etymology-see any dictionary for this) have been described as the "ancestors of the modern state", or the stealing of the Sun of Vergina, a Greek symbol from LACONIA in the PELOPONNESE since 600BC. These things only laughter bring to serious historians, but it seems that many people in FYROM (especially youngsters) believe them! The answer (unfortunately for the Skopians) comes from the Albanian minority in the country. Most believe that "There are Greeks, Bulgarians, Serbs, Albanians, Turks and Gypsies but there was never been a Macedonian Nation".
